Gönül graduated from the department of chemistry education at METU, with a minor degree in the food engineering department. Her master thesis focuses on the synthesis of benzotriazole derivatives and their electrochemical characterization. She has synthesized polymers via chemical ways which is very important for an application point of view. She conducted studies to investigate the effect of the structure on the optical properties of the resulting polymers that may have a potential use in organic photovoltaic devices. She had completed MS. Studies in September 2011. She is now a PhD student, in charge of solar lab in Toppare Research Group.
